Speed dating
The morning starts off with the Yo! Opera Speed Date: your opportunity to network and to meet as many inspiring colleagues as possible. Here you’ll meet valuable contacts for the future.

Discussion: Today's Musician: a Chameleon / Rineke Smilde – Musicians as life-long learners
Rineke Smilde’s recent doctoral dissertation addresses the musician’s place in our rapidly-changing society. The world is changing: what are the consequences for the professional musician? And for music’s place in today’s world? Rineke’s research, based on the stories of 32 musicians, outlines the diversity of development possibilities and some surprising outcomes.

Her presentation is the kick-off for a discussion about your own musical skills. How do you see your skills in the light of today’s world? What expertise would you like to develop? What possibilities are provided for this development by new media? Join in by listening and talking!

Carroussel Operaflat
The 2009 edition of the Operaflat has been developed along truly innovative lines. This year, for the first time, we are working with a website on which the creative process will take place. The initial ideas, libretti, video messages, blogs, music and recipes will be exchanged on the site between all the makers. On the Yo! Opera site anyone can take a look and give their response

At several tables, you can hear from the makers themselves how they experience this different way of making opera. How does a working process that takes place in public on the Internet actually work? What do the young makers think of working like this? What does such a process deliver in the way of new insights?

The opera debate
How can opera relate to today’s world? What relevance does opera have for young people? And what place does the singing voice have in this situation? Is opera an age-old tradition that should be respected, or is it a dynamic, modern form of music drama that is re-invented in and for our time? In three parallel sessions we will debate these issues with youngsters, young professionals and education experts.

Festive Opening
In the evening we’ll drink a toast to the fifth anniversary of Yo! Opera Festival and visit the world premiere of Grensgevallen (Yo! Opera production).
