Test: Xynix Opera
Feeks (Serpent): no fear for Shakespeare
The final day of the Yo! Opera Meeting begins with the third ‘test’. Xynix Opera produces new operaworks often based on classical themes and stories. This time, Xynix Opera teams up with the versatile Zapp! String Quartet and English director Martin Lloyd Evans for a youth adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. Feeks (Serpent) is Xynix’s first English-language production.
You’ll have the opportunity to view the first scenes of Feeks and to hear Xynix Opera’s’ ideas about the final production. Composers Oene van Geel and Jasper le Clerq - both with a jazz background - will tell you what it is like working with classically trained singers. Director Martin Lloyd Evans (who visited the same school as Shakespeare!) will share his experience in producing opera for youngsters. Moreover, you can interact with all makers involved.
