Singing in Context (for young singers)
David Moss wil conduct a workshop on improving your skills as a singer. It’s about more than just your artistic qualities: you’ll learn more about presentation, communication and the way you position yourself as a 21st-century musician. Note that a diverse group of vocalists will be present!
De Zingende Stad
De Zingende Stad is a series of cultural education lessons that combine music education with geography, history and ICT. The highlight of each series of lessons is a musical hunt through the neighbourhood created by the pupils themselves. The main instruments involved are singing and mobile phones with GPS.
This project originated from research carried out by Yo! Opera in recent years into combining new media with opera. Although De Zingende Stad is not yet the culmination of this research, you will definitely get a tantalising idea of it in the session on Thursday. The numerous possibilities of new media in relation to education, creativity and music or opera form the principle behind this presentation. And have a go yourself, too!
Follow-up get-together Wegwijzers
Following the performance there will be an opportunity to exchange thoughts with students from Globe College. How did they experience their participation in creating an opera? In what ways did the project stimulate their creativity? Did the concept ‘opera’ take on a new significance to them?
Follow-up get-together Verknipte Zangeres
A post-performance meeting with the makers of this evocative opera for the very youngest age group.
Supermarket songspiel Test
The first of three ‘tests’ presented by Yo! Opera. Director Bart Oomen (NL) draws a relationship between the well-known songs from the Brecht & Weill songbook and the day-to-day experiences of cashiers at an everyday supermarket. This stimulating exploration for the link between opera and youth is presented as a work-in-progress in which short scenes are alternated with a discussion about the creative process and the desired result.
Listen to his viewpoint and enter into discussion with the maker.

Supermarket Songspiel is a coproduction of Stichting ’t Beemstervarken, Stichting IJ Producties, M-lab and the Yo! Opera Festival.
Songs: Bertold Brecht (text) and Kurt Weill (music) from the Brecht & Weill songbook // Director: Bart Oomen (Stichting ’t Beemstervarken) // Directing advice: Koen van Dijk (M-Lab) // Documentary: Susanna Brenner (documentary), Jan Rot (lyrics) and Tom Löwernthal (music) // Cashiers: Zosja el Rhazi, Ruzanna Nahapetjan, Ellen Vos and Christl Briels // General managing: Bureau Barel
