Music Laboratory in the Classroom
The Music Laboratory in the Classroom is carried out by the Wervelwind Ensemble (NL). For almost a whole day the Ensemble will work together with composer/animator James Redwood on the strategies to engage children in a working process. Based on their experience with the youth opera Jimmy, presented at the 2007 Yo! Opera Festival, they decided to take a very different approach this time around.
For its new youth opera, the Wervelwind Ensemble has turned to its audience for assistance: children help in establishing the building blocks for a new production. The ensemble will be working with the English composer and animator James Redwood, who will coach them in this process. You are invited to join this session and learn about working with children and opera.
This ‘test’ exposes opera-makers to this issue of what interests children. How do we incorporate those elements into a youth opera? And how does one develop musical and text material with children? Discuss all these issues with the creators.
Debate ‘Operation Music Theatre’
This is a follow-up to the debates held on Wednesday. In this debate we will present the results of those discussions to all participants of the Yo! Opera Meeting, with the addition of a number of opera experts.
How does a new, young generation of opera makers see the genre? What does opera mean to this new generation? What are the possibilities and impossibilities for young makers? And how do established opera houses view this new generation and their ideas? The debate is organised in collaboration with the TIN, NFPK+ and MCN.
