Preparation: leave the pupil to rise for a while

OK, you’re going to write an opera text. To do this, you are going to interview a resident of Faustdreef complex. This interview is about food and eating. For instance, this person’s favourite dish. Or a particular food he really hates. Everything’s possible, as long as it’s about food.

With the information you’ve collected in the interview you are then going to make an opera text, officially called a libretto. Two workshops will get you on the right track.

Workshop 1: music
What kind of music do you like, and why? You’re going to write an opera text that’s going to be set to music. So it’s handy for the composer to know if you prefer hiphop, pop, techno, whatever. After this workshop you’ll be able to explain your choice.

Workshop 2: interviews
What is the trick to conducting a successful interview? How do you prepare yourself? What kind of questions do you ask? And how do you transform this into an opera text? Together with Ilonka Verdurmen of the School der Poëzie we’ll go in search of answers to these questions.
