De Zingende Stad
More singing using computers and mobile phones!
A lesson plan for primary school groups 5, 6, 7 and 8
De Zingende Stad (The Singing City) is a cultural education lesson series that combines music education with new media and the pupils’ immediate surroundings.
The project encourages children and teachers to be conscious of their voice as a personal means of expression, and stimulates them to sing. The youngsters use Internet and GPS-enhanced mobile phones to create and play their own games, and to watch them afterwards. The pupils’ surroundings reach further than the classroom and include the neighbourhood around their school. The youngsters engage in ‘location-based’ learning, literally mapping out their surroundings.
