Stadt der Hunde - Neuköllner Oper

Three dogs: a Doberman, sheepdog and a pug meet up on a cold winter’s night in the neighbourhood of Neukolln, a multicultural district of Berlin.

Their home life isn’t so great. They get no respect or love from their owners. So they decide to run away together. Ambling through the streets, they dream of a better life. Life in an urban herd of dogs. Yearning for acceptance, love and a place to call home, the Doberman and the sheepdog fall in love with the pug. It looks like the trio’s tale is not going to have a happy ending, but things turn out very differently….

For Stadt der Hunde the Neuköllner Oper collaborated with schoolchildren from the district where the opera’s action takes place. They proudly showed off their favourite spots in the neighbourhood. A true feel-good opera, sung in German with Dutch supertitles.
